Happy Thanksgiving

top image

It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner!  If this beautiful weather we've been experiencing continues, it will be one more thing we can be thankful for this Thursday.  And speaking of being thankful, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our loyal subscribers, for continuing to support Macaroni Kid.  We would also like to send a special "thank you" to those of you serving in the military, and your families, for the sacrifices you so unselfishly make.

We wish you all a happy, safe and blessed holiday!

RAOK

Random Acts of Kindness

left image

Keeping our children grounded to the real meaning of the holidays is very difficult.  Between the radio ads , TV ads and billboards, its hard to bring them back to the true core of being thankful and the joy of gift giving.

This Thanksgiving, invite guests to bring along blankets, towels, soaps, toothbrushes and nonperishable food.  Children can distribute donations evenly in shopping bags, which they can help deliver to a nearby shelter.  Then on Black Friday, instead of getting caught up in the hoopla of the day, you can deliver, with your family, items to those in need.  Many hands make light work!

Craft ideas to keep the kids busy, last-minute recipes, our recent road trip and more.

Starting Monday, check out our blog daily for some kid crafts, last-minute recipe ideas and other fun stuff!  We'll also be sharing our recent road trip experience, which included a trip to Titusville to watch the shuttle launch.  (Did you know?  NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, a Clearwater High School graduate, just celebrated her birthday aboard the International Space Station.  How cool is that?  Nicole will end a three-month tour on the station when Atlantis returns.)

Macaroni Made

Pilgrim Hats

top image

You will need:

-24 chocolate-striped shortbread cookies

-12-ounce package of chocolate chips

-24 marshmallows

-tube of yellow decorator's frosting

Set the chocolate-striped cookies stripes down on a wax-paper-covered tray, spacing them well apart.  Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler.  One at a time, stick a wooden toothpick into a marshmallow, dip the marshmallow into the melted chocolate, and promptly center it atop a cookie.  Using a second toothpick to lightly hold down the marshmallow, carefully pull out the first toothpick.  Chill the hats until the chocolate sets, then pipe a yellow decorator's frosting buckle on the front of each hat.
